Are you looking for something to do in St. Augustine this summer? The July and August summer heat can feel intense, but let me tell you, summer in St. Augustine can be a lot of fun.

When I first moved here, I intentionally chose to arrive during the hottest months: mid-summer. I wanted to see if I could handle it. Yes, it was hot and humid, and it did a number on my hair, but that’s nothing compared to the amazing summer experiences I’ve had since then.

Let me share what makes the summer season here not only manageable but truly enjoyable.

1. Head to the beach. Cool off in St. Augustine by visiting the beach. There are many great spots to choose from, like Mickler’s Landing, St. Augustine Beach, Salt Run, and Ponte Vedra Beach. Each has its own vibe, but they have a nice coastal breeze that helps make even the hottest days feel more comfortable.

Early mornings and late afternoons are especially nice because there are fewer crowds. You can easily find parking along A1A, with plenty of public access points.

If you’re looking for something a bit more upscale and relaxing, I can host you at the Ponte Vedra Beach Club. As my guest, you’ll have reserved chairs, umbrellas, and even food and drinks ready when you arrive.

2. Visit the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park with the family. The St. Augustine Alligator Farm is a must-visit, especially for families moving to the area with kids or grandkids. The park also has every species of crocodilian in the world, along with birds, reptiles, and other fascinating creatures.

One of the highlights is the zipline course that goes right over the alligator habitats. It’s an exciting experience that kids and adventurous adults love. The farm also has shaded walkways and interactive exhibits, making it a fun and comfortable outing, even in the summer heat.

3. Explore historic downtown St. Augustine. Downtown St. Augustine is the heart of America’s oldest city, and it truly lives up to the hype. With its charming cobblestone streets and centuries-old buildings, you’ll find historic landmarks like the Castillo de San Marcos and the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse around every corner.

You can explore unique artisan boutiques, grab a treat from one of the many ice cream or fudge shops, and enjoy live music from street performers in the shaded areas.

A convenient way to see it all, especially in the summer heat, is by using the hop-on, hop-off trolley. It’s perfect for families with kids or older relatives who want to explore without walking long distances. Plus, the area feels clean, safe, and welcoming, making it easy to relax and enjoy everything the city has to offer.

4. Grab a drink at the Tini Martini Bar. This cozy and quirky bar is located right across from the historic fort in downtown St. Augustine. It’s a perfect spot to take a break from sightseeing and cool off with a refreshing cocktail.

The atmosphere is casual and fun, featuring strong drinks, friendly service, and outdoor seating that’s great for people-watching. Whether you’re ending a long day of exploring or just looking for a mid-afternoon pick-me-up, this local favorite is a must-visit.

“Summers in St. Augustine can be hot but they’re also full of life, and packed with activities for the whole family.”

5. Spend a Saturday at the Nocatee Farmers Market. Just a short drive from St. Augustine, the Nocatee Farmers Market is a weekend favorite that’s definitely worth the trip. It’s a fantastic place to find locally grown produce, fresh-baked bread, homemade jams, small-batch honey, and unique handcrafted items from local artisans.

The market has a relaxed, family-friendly vibe and often features live music, food trucks, and themed events that change with the seasons. Strolling around the market and enjoying the local atmosphere is a lovely way to spend a Saturday morning.

6. Catch a show at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre. The amphitheater is one of the area’s best-kept secrets for live music lovers. This intimate outdoor venue hosts big-name performers like Willie Nelson and Casting Crowns, yet it only seats around 500 people, so almost every seat feels like the front row.

The relaxed and personal atmosphere offers a completely different experience compared to larger arenas or stadiums. During the summer, they often have seasonal concert series and special events, but tickets sell out quickly. If you see an artist you love on the schedule, it’s a good idea to plan ahead.

7. Book a sunset cruise or private boat tour. For a relaxing way to enjoy St. Augustine’s coastal beauty, a catamaran cruise from Vilano Beach is hard to beat. These sunset cruises typically cost around $60 per person and include live music, unlimited margaritas, beer, and wine, all while you glide along the water, taking in stunning views of the historic skyline and vibrant Florida skies.

The atmosphere is laid-back, with couples, families, and groups just enjoying the moment. If you prefer something more private or want to explore at your own pace, you can rent a boat with a captain through St. John’s Concierge Service. This is a great option if you’re not a member of a boat club but still want a personalized experience on the water. Either way, it’s a refreshing change of pace and a perfect way to cool off without needing to dive in.

Everything I’ve shared here comes from personal experience, not secondhand recommendations. These are the places I go, the activities I plan, and the outings I suggest when friends or family come to visit. I’ve tested them all, and I continue to enjoy them year after year.
